About the Congress
Europe’s biotechnology event – where science and industry come together with society
The European Congress on Biotechnology brings together the top European and International scientists, biotechnologists, innovators and key biotech policy & decision makers in an unprecedented international meeting. The Congress was established in 1978 by the European Federation of Biotechnology. Previous editions attracted over 1,500 leading scientists and other senior participants, over 500 posters and more than a hundred exhibitors, from over 50 countries across Europe and beyond.
Congress Themes
1. Symbiosis (Science, Industry & Society) – The central theme of the European Congress on Biotechnology. Analysing the crucial impact the life sciences industry has had in addressing humanity’s great challenges, looking to society to see the remaining and emerging needs, and presenting the cutting-edge science that will address these new challenges.
2. Industrial Biotechnology, a multidisciplinary approach including applied biocatalysis, biochemical engineering, microbial physiology and systems biology – all focused on innovation in industrial biotechnology and the development of the Knowledge-Based Bio-Economy.
3. Health & Medicine, including the latest achievements in biotechnology to improve existing treatments and bring forward novel approaches, with a special focus on the development of new innovative and targeted medicines that will impact future medicines and therapies.
4. Green Biotechnology – Exploring the benefits and challenges derived from the application of biotechnologies in agriculture, including sessions on the latest developments in the fields of environmental biotechnology and biodiversity.
5. Functional Genomics & Systems Biology – Connecting the most promising developments in functional studies of genes and their protein products with the expanding concept of systems biology. The focus will be on technologies and their applications in biomedicine, industry and the environment, together with data integration into systems level understanding.
Also featuring special presentations on international partnering, technology transfer, ethics & safety in biotechnology, regulatory affairs, bioenergy, and much more!
